WIXOM, Mich. (WXYZ) — A driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Wixom in June was sentenced to 5-15 years in prison.

Miguel Ibarra-Cerda is accused of hitting and killing 14-year-old Justin Lee as he rode his bike.

He was arrested the following day in Lansing. Previously considered a flight risk, police had reason to believe that Ibarra-Cerda, who was in the country illegally, would go back to Mexico.

Lee's family said he was a football player at Walled Lake Western.

His stepfather, Dave Kataja, said he planned on rejoining the football team this season.

"That's all he talked about was wanting to get back into playing football again, because he's been off," Kataja said.
