AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Fire crews from Auburn Hills, Troy, Waterford and Rochester have put out a massive fire at the U.S. Farathane Corporation in Auburn Hills.
The facility is located at High Meadow Circle in Auburn Hills.
Fire officials say the fire broke out in a storage area behind the company's building. It sent thick black smoke pouring into the sky. The smoke could be seen for miles around.
The fire was contained to a storage area outside the southern portion of the facility. Officials say it was confined to plastic containers that held cardboard. The building did not suffer any damage.
There are no reports of injuries.
Company officials have issued the following statement on the fire:
There was a major fire at our Auburn Hills facility this morning. There were no injuries or toxic chemical issue. The event occurred outside of our production facility in a storage are where primarily empty plastic and steel returnable containers are stored. We will conduct a full investigation along with local authorities to determine the cause. We want to thank all Fire and Police Departments from multiple municipalities for their prompt response. We witnessed first-hand their bravery and effectiveness. There are outstanding employees at our Auburn Hills facility. We are grateful for no injuries. We anticipate starting production back up during our second shift today. We appreciate the outpouring of support and concern from our customers, suppliers and competitor. We are currently evaluations customer shipment schedules and expect minimal disruptions.
