MDOT: Weather will determine whether I-696 construction will finish this year

The Michigan Department of Transportation said the weather will be the determining factor in whether the I-696 construction is completed this year.

MDOT says contractors are diligently working to have both eastbound and westbound lanes, along with all ramps, open to traffic before winter hits.

"The schedule will continue to be managed with an eye on weather; which will be the determining factor in whether all work is completed this year or lanes and ramps are temporarily reopened until they can be permanently completed in the Spring of 2019," MDOT says.

Since construction work resumed, new concrete has been poured east of Dequindre Road.

Additionally, MDOT says this weekend will be the final freeway closure to complete concrete pavement repairs on EB I-696 between Telegraph Road and I-75. This closure will start at 9 p.m. Friday and wrap up by 5 a.m. Monday.
