Meijer says it plans to build a new metro Detroit location and remodel a dozen more area "supercenters" this year.
The Grand Rapids-based retailer says $80 million will be spent to remodel southeast Michigan stores in 2016.
They also announced that a new Meijer store planned for Flat Rock will open its doors this year. That store will be located at 26100 Vreeland Road, east of Telegraph.
"The opening of each new Meijer store represents as many as 300 full- and part-time jobs," the company said Tuesday.
Remodeling projects at metro Detroit stores will include efforts to create wider aisles, add better signage, and expand the clothing, electronics and liquor departments in some stores. Meijer also plans to improve the pharmacies in some of their Detroit area stores.
"Work on the Roseville location began in February and is expected to take six months to complete," they said. "Work on additional stores, including Royal Oak and Shelby Township locations, is expected to last throughout the year."
