Police officer survives being dragged 200 feet

Posted

Melvindale police say one of their officers is recovering after being dragged about 200 feet by Anthony Rhodes. Rhodes, who hasn't had a valid driver's license in 13 years, is already on probation for buying and selling stolen metal.

Rhodes, 57, is now charged with assaulting a police officer and fleeing & eluding.

A Melvindale police officer pulled Rhodes over Wednesday morning because of an invalid plate on his car.

Rhodes stopped for police for just a few moments before deciding to speed off. Police say the officer was dragged about 200 feet and then his body rolled another 60 feet.

And while the officer was able to stand up shortly after being dragged, he did suffer some injuries, but, thankfully, he's expected to make a full recovery.
