It's Cinco de Mayo and there will be plenty of deals and activities across metro Detroit.
Cinco de Mayo started after the defeat of the French army in the 1862 Battle of Puebla, and has grown into a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.
Deals and activities
Detroit's Sugar House will serve Mexican-themed food and cocktails today. Guests will have a chance to win Tigers tickets at a raffle.
On the menu at Mesa Tacos and Tequila in Royal Oak: Drink specials, a shot luge, giveaways and live music. The party goes from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
At La Palapas in Livonia, there will be drink specials all day. A family friendly event with face painting, balloon animals and free dessert will be earlier in the day followed by an adult party with an ice luge, DJs and dancing.
Both Mex restaurants in Bloomfield Hills and Auburn Hills will feature tacos and special cocktails including a $100 shareable margarita. You can also expect games and giveaways. Proceeds will support Heart 2 Hart Detroit.
If you're looking to grab some food or maybe even a margarita, Loco's Tex Mex Grille in Greektown is hosting a taco-eating contest with prize-filled pinatas, live music and drink specials.
Calexico in downtown Detroit also has festivities planned. There will be a DJ, margarita samples, and even an ice luge.
In Dearborn Heights, Del Taco is hosting its annual Epic Burrito Challenge. The first 10 people to register will be tasked with eating two one-pound burritos within 15 minutes.
