The walkouts come on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine School Shooting and just over two months after the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Fla.
On March 14, one month after the Parkland shooting, students walked out for 17 minutes in honor of the 17 victims in the shooting.
The walkouts are planned across the area, with larger, more organized walkouts in Farmington Hills, Troy, Auburn Hills, Royal Oak and South Lyon.
According to the National School Walkout page, there are more than 2,700 events planned across the country.
