Locals in Detroit are mourning the death of renowned forensic psychiatrist Steven Pitt who was murdered in Arizona on Thursday night.
Pitt was born and raised in Southfield and was well known for working on cases like the Jonbenet Ramsey murder. He was shot and killed outside of his Phoenix office on Thursday.
Melissa Handler spent a lot of her younger years being a close friend to Steven Pitt, even attending high school at Southfield Lathrup with him.
“He was a great guy. He was a lot of fun. A big personality,” Handler said
She found out about his death on Friday morning.
“Devastating, just devastating. He was such a good guy and just been really accomplished in the terms of his work and his career,” Handler said.
Police haven’t found his killer yet. Pitt’s funeral will be Monday.
