FRASER, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Fraser man heartbroken by the recent passing of his father is dealt another blow after his dad's truck, containing photographs and medals from a military career, is stolen.
The father's cremated remains were also inside of the truck, according to a post on Facebook from the man's aunt.
Justin's father passed away on Jan. 2. He asked that 7 Action News not reveal his last name.
Justin recently went to Virginia to handle his father's affairs and when he returned home to Fraser on Jan. 16 with his dad's Jeep Grand Cherokee, within 45 minutes of leaving the truck in his driveway the vehicle was stolen.
His aunt posted to Facebook what happened in hopes of the public spotting the stolen vehicle, which has Virginia license plates, along with the memorabilia inside.
Justin's father was a retired member of the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at the Pentagon on 9/11, helping many out of the building safely following the terrorist attack. Justin's aunt says artifacts from that day were also inside of the vehicle.
Justin says he doesn't so much care about the vehicle being returned but cares greatly for the return of his dad's belongings. He and his wife are offering a $15,000 reward for information that leads to a recovery.
A list of the items inside the vehicle include:
- three military medals
- the flag flown over the Pentagon (with certificate) originally signed
- naval uniform
- photo albums
- military challenge coins
- a small safe
- a container holding the cremated remains of his father
If the items are recovered, please return them to a local police station fire station, library, or post office anywhere in the metro Detroit area.
