DETROIT (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting near Southfield Freeway and I-96 in Detroit Tuesday. It's the second shooting to occur on I-96 in less than 24 hours.

A preliminary investigation found that the driver of an SUV was traveling southbound on Southfield when another vehicle pulled along next to it and began firing gunshots.

The driver of the SUV was hit. The passenger in the SUV may have also been hit, but left the scene of the shooting before police arrived.

Police are gathering evidence from the freeway. About half a dozen bullet casings were marked in the area.

This shooting is not connected to the shooting from Monday evening, police say.
