ADRIAN, Mich. (WXYZ) — More than six percent of students and staff at Adrian College have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, according to the Lenawee County Health Department.
The liberal arts college has reported a total of 152 COVID-19 cases with 139 active cases and 13 recovered.
Siena Heights University has also reported two positive COVID-19 cases; both active cases.
Many of these cases are associated with students returning to local colleges and universities, the health department stated. It is currently working closely with both Adrian College and Siena Heights University to address outbreaks at the facilities.
As of September 1, 2020, the Lenawee County Health Department reports 555 confirmed cases of COVID-19, an increase of 31 cases from the day prior. Of these 555 cases, 256 or about 48% are active cases, which means they are either monitoring at home or hospitalized.
Many recent cases are among individuals age 18 to 24 years of age, with the most notable increase in this group occurring the last week of August. The following data shows the number of cases among the 18 to 24 year old group during the month of August:
- August 1-8: 4 cases
- August 9-15: 7 cases
- August 16-22: 3 cases
- August 23-31: 57 cases
The Lenawee County Health Department says it continues to monitor this situation closely and taking measures to prevent the spread of the virus in our community.
