DETROIT (WXYZ) — Authorities have arrested Detroit's Most Wanted Darryl Fernald, an alleged sex offender who cut off his tether in order to elude police.
Fernald was captured thanks to a viewer tip, which led police to Detroit's west side in the area of Collingwood where the suspect was arrested.
Fernald has a lengthy criminal history. U.S. Marshals say a nationwide manhunt was active in order to locate the fugitive.
The U.S. Marshals say Fernald has been given chance after chance to turn his life around, but instead, he cut off his tether, which placed him at the top of the Most Wanted list.
"It's not safe to have someone running around who is breaking into people's houses and committing heinous acts of violence against people," said U.S. Marshal Justin Efthemiou.
Fernald, 39, has been convicted of crimes throughout the state of Michigan.
