Man featured as Detroit's Most Wanted for murder arrested after two years

A man featured as one of Detroit's Most Wanted over two years ago has been arrested in Ecorse as a direct result of a 7 Action News viewer tip.

Jermaine Pritchett was wanted for murder after shooting a young father in Ecorse after a physical altercation.

Jermaine Pritchett has never been in trouble with the law- not even a speeding ticket. But, police tell us the 20-year-old is a cold blooded killer who’s good at flying under the radar.

“There’s a young child without a father, a senseless death, senseless, over nothing,” Duputy U.S. Marshal Aaron Garcia, supervisor of DFAT told us.

Garcia says Pritchett killed 21-year-old Kevin Simmons after a physical altercation in Ecorse in December 2016.

“Simmons got the better half of Pritchett on the basketball court and he wasn’t happy with that,” he said.

That’s when Garcia says Pritchett got a gun, looking to finish what the two men had started.

“Two shots rang, one of them shot him in the back of the head killing him instantly,” he said.

But Simmons wasn’t alone, his brother had been with him during that fatal night.

“When this guy was shot in the head, he was saving his brother’s life, he was pushing his younger brother out of the way to get cover because he knew Pritchett was there for no good,” Garcia said.

Police say Kevin Simmons died a hero, while Jermaine Pritchett took off.

“We know this guy knows we’re looking for him, we know he’s running, we know family’s helping him out,” Garcia said.
