(WXYZ) — A young woman was gunned down in cold blood just two days before Christmas, and the case remains unsolved. Inkster police are working with Michigan State Police to catch her killer.
The victim's mother is appealing to anyone who might know something. State police say the investigation is still in the early stages.
It was the evening hours of Dec. 23 at Beech and Manning in Inkster that MSP says an unknown shooter opened fire killing Alyssa Powell as she sat in her car.
Alyssa was just 20 years old with her entire life in front of her, and lived in Redford but had a lot of friends in the city of Inkster. She was found slumped over the wheel of her car and a motive remains unknown. Her family says along with the need to find Alyssa's killer, they also have to raise enough money to take her body from the morgue to a funeral home and bury her properly.
A GoFundMe is set up now to accept donations.
“She was shot in the head and found in her car," Alyssa's mother Melissa Dubose said. "She was loving and caring. Loved kids and everyone. We need answers and help to bury her so she doesn’t continue to sit there.”
Detectives are now looking for leads in the investigation.
“Right now, we’re looking at leads from neighbors and doing a canvas. The last people who talked to her,” said Det. Sgt. Sean Street with MSP.
