Motown Museum hosting second annual 'AMPLIFY' singing competition

(WXYZ) — The Motown Museum is looking for some of the best singers in Detroit as it is hosting its second annual "AMPLIFY: The Sound of Detroit" singing competition.

Audition tapes are being accepted now through Oct. 17, with semi-final rounds on Thursdays from Oct. 3 through Oct. 24.

The competition is open to solo singers and singing groups of 2-5 people, and participants must submit a 3 minute (or less) audition video to be considered to compete in one fo the four semi final rounds.

In each of the semifinals, each competitor or group will perform in front of judges, and two singers or groups will be chosen each week.

The grand finale will happen on Nov. 15 at the Garden Theatre, where they will perform a Motown song and compete to win $2,500 in cash, a studio session and more.

“On the heels of our successful our Motown 60 weekend, we are continuing the momentum with our second annual AMPLIFY singing competition,Motown Museum Chairwoman and CEO Robin Terry said in a release. “The talent we saw participate last year was incredible. AMPLIFY allows the next generation of performers and artists from all walks of life to share their creativity and talents with the community.”

The semi-final events will take place October 3, 10, 17 and 24th from 8-10 p.m. at the Detroit Institute of Music Education (DIME) located at 1265 Griswold in Detroit. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $10, and students with ID and Motown Museum Members who present their membership cards can purchase tickets for $5 at the door.
