ROMULUS, Mich. (WXYZ) — Michigan State Police Metro South Post closed the freeway on westbound I-94 at Middlebelt Thursday evening to investigate the area after a suspect fired shots on the freeway.

According to police, at 4:30 p.m., officers received a call from a woman saying that a driver had fired a shot at her vehicle on I-94 near Merriman. She provided the license plate of the suspect's vehicle, who she says fired one round and missed her vehicle.

An MSP trooper was in the I-94 median, just west of the incident, at the time. That trooper was able to locate and stop the suspected shooter within minutes following the incident.

Troopers then located the female victim, who identified the suspect. Now officers are interviewing the passengers who were inside the suspect's vehicle. The suspect has since been taken into custody with charges pending a prosecutor's review.

The freeway has since reopened. This is an ongoing investigation.
