The Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians have a combined championship drought of 174 years. And yet, the two teams have advanced this far - to meet in Game 1 of the World Series this week.
It's clear we're living in historic times. Shouldn't that call for a historic broadcaster? One Illinois man is thinking so - he set up a Change.org petition to replace FOX announcer Joe Buck with Brewers legend Bob Uecker for World Series broadcasts.
So far, it's racked up nearly 13,000 signatures.
Uecker's portrayal of Indians announcer Harry Doyle in the 1989 movie "Major League" has become part of sports movie lore. Petition creator Tab Bamford calls the portrayal an "all-time great."
"Replacing Joe Buck with Uecker would put one of the truly great entertainers in the game on its biggest stage," Bamford argues.
