UM students develop "Companion" app

Posted

A new app from five University of Michigan students is gaining traction in the technology world.

Called "Companion," the app will help make walking home safer for students.

The app lets you plug in your destination, and then you choose contacts as "Companions."

Then, if built-in sensors in your phone detect anything suspicious, like if you start running or change your path, the app notifies your companion.

Then, the companion has the option of asking, "Are you okay?" and you only have 15 seconds to respond with, "I am okay," before an alarm is triggered on your phone.
