FLINT, Mich. (WXYZ) — She's the new top official overseeing the prosecution team in the Flint Water Crisis. She’s also the country’s first Muslim American Solicitor General.

Wednesday at the courthouse in Flint, Fadwa Hammoud spent the day learning as much as she could about the Flint Water Case. She also took time to answer our questions about her background and plan for the job.

“I’m approaching this as a career prosecutor and here to learn as much as I can. To listen most of all,” Hammoud said.

She sat in court for several hours today, as special prosecutor Todd Flood handled a court hearing. Flood has been the lead prosecutor since the crisis started three years ago.

During his time over the case, Flood has overseen the charging of 15 people and numerous plea deals that have advanced the case. Two top state officials are also headed to trial for alleged manslaughter. Hammoud says while she’s extremely eager to get involved in the case, she’s not ready to comment on who will be part of her team.

Today wasn’t just a quick stop in Flint. Hammoud says she plans to be in the courtroom a lot for this case. She’s going to continue familiarizing herself with every aspect in the days, weeks and months to come.
