DEARBORN, Mich. (WXYZ) — Does it feel like your kids run the house? Now they can take over their own town!
A new indoor playground opened today in Dearborn that empowers kids to put away technology and play make-believe in a pint-sized version of Detroit.
Detroit Kid City opened it's very first franchise location today in Dearborn.
It’s a city, just their size! Complete with an automotive factory, a Hitsville recording studio, a bank, a grocery store, a firehouse, a football field and so much more. There are costumes and props, but no instruction or training, yet instinctively the kids seem to know how to run the world.
"It just brings out their imagination and really allows them to feel like they are in control. Versus all the different 'don't do this, don't do that,' this just allows them to be them," says Fouad Bazzi a partner in opening Detroit Kid City Dearborn.
It also allows kids to explore different jobs and careers. There's a barber shop where kids can get or give a pretend hair cuts and even a post office.
"And if you notice, every exhibit has a mailbox! When we get to the post office you'll see, in it there's envelopes with the addresses, so kids can learn how to connect the dots themselves to deliver the mail: 6 goes to 6, 5 goes to 5," Bazzi said.
Its an experience so fun kids don't even realize they are learning and an incredible opportunity to put technology down and engage the mind.
Detroit Kid City was so successful with it's first two locations, the company is franchising. Dearborn is the first franchise location but there are already plans for this local business to expand and take Detroit Kid City all over the country.
