STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WXYZ) — After announcing a naming contest, the City of Sterling Heights said the name of its Golden Corridor icon will be "The Halo."
According to the city, it was a very popular submission idea and was submitted by Connie Truszkowski of Sterling Heights. It won 947 votes. Truszkowski will win more than $1,000 in gift cards.
Second place went to "Standing O" with 795 votes and third place to The Sun Gate with 791 votes.
The 35-foot steel and aluminum circle, which is illuminated at night, was constructed on the median along M-59 near Lakeside Mall. It was completed in January. The city spent nearly $300,000 on a branding package, which includes "The Halo" and new signage.
