Animal shelter to help domestic violence victims

Posted

A new no-kill animal shelter in Warren aims to help homeless dogs find their forever homes and offer assistance to pet owners who are also victims of domestic violence.

Friends Dianne Reeves and Andrea Kolanowski-Sesi are co-founders of the new non-profit rescue, and they're hoping to raise $10,000 Saturday afternoon at an open house fundraising event.

I Heart Dogs Rescue & Animal Haven is located at 22415 Groesbeck Highway in Warren.

And Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the public is invited to attend an afternoon of fun that will include everything from live music and food, to a poodle fashion show and dog training advice.

There will be a silent auction and raffle items that include a 55-inch flat screen TV, golf package for four, a BMX bike Tigers box seats and a lot more.

I Heart Dogs Rescue & Animal Haven is set to open in mid-October, and free dog training will be offered to anyone who adopts a dog from the shelter.

A special guest for Saturday's open house fundraising event will be radio personality Allyson Martinek.

7 Action News reporter Kimberly Craig will emcee the event.
