DETROIT (WXYZ) — The newlywed wife of the man fatally shot at a Detroit gas station is speaking out.
36-year-old Demarco Early was the oldest of three kids, a husband as of three months ago and a man who loved God, his family and friends.
On Monday morning, Demarco told his wife, Jalana Early, he was walking to the gas station, less than a block away, and that he’d be right back.
Demarco had no idea as he walked up to the Mobil gas station, that a man with a gun was having an apparent mental breakdown inside. That man shot Demarco four or five times then shot and killed himself – all just less than a block from his wife Jalana.
Jalana saw the crime scene tape out the window and ran outside to learn her innocent husband had been gunned down.
Now instead of planning the rest of their lives together, she’s planning a funeral.
There’s a GoFundMe page to raise money to pay for the costs.
She says her faith is giving her strength, and that there is a message in this senseless shooting.
A vigil will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Mobil gas station at Fenkell and Greenfield where Demarco's life was taken.
