In the middle of the red hot hunting season here in Michigan, one landowner made it clear that he did not want people on his land.
He posted signs: trespass, be shot. The property owner next door is Tony Mazzali, the owner of the Crooked Foot Hunt Club.
He talked with 7 Investigator Jim Kiertzner. Is he threatened by the signs and the owner?
“Ah, he clearly states his case. I hope no one would go that far.”
The signs are enhanced by yellow stickers that say,
“This establishment is routinely patrolled by Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies.”
There’s one problem, this is Shiawassee County, not Oakland County. And it turns out the owner behind the signs is an Oakland County Deputy, named Luke Decker.
Undersheriff Mike McCabe tells 7 Investigator, Decker will be getting department discipline indicating it will be a suspension without pay.
Decker did write a two-page letter of apology in which he says he regrets any problems he caused for the department and he put up the signs to deter trespassers.
He also said, “I do not have any intentions of shooting or harming anyone.”
The Hunt Club owner says the signs were removed this past weekend. But he has still not met the deputy and would like to be good neighbors.
