DETROIT (WXYZ) — Jackson, Mich. native and Oakland University alum Brian Stuard is near the top of the leaderboard going into the final round of the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Stuard shot a 65 during the third round on Saturday, which put him at -13 on the round following a 66 and 72 on Thursday and Friday. It was his second-lowest 18-hole score of the season, behind his 64 at the Sony Open earlier this year.
Stuard had 25 putts on the day which totaled more than 153-feet. He saved birdie from off the green on the 18th hole from nearly 16 feet out and the crowd roared.
"I just had the putter going and it was one of those days where the hole looked pretty good," Stuard said after the round.
He finished around the time that Nate Lashley, who was leading the tournament, teed off. As of this writing, around 2:30 p.m. Saturday, he was tied for 2nd place going into the final round.
