Off-duty Detroit police officer allegedly accidentally shoots relative in car

DETROIT (WXYZ) — An off-duty Detroit police officer allegedly accidentally shot a relative Thursday night, police say.

Police say that in the 1400 block of Times Square, the officer was inside a vehicle with the 20-year-old relative. When the officer was moving her weapon, it allegedly accidentally discharged, striking the victim in the body.

The off-duty officer took the victim to the hospital for treatment. She is reportedly in serious condition.

An internal investigation has been opened, police say.
