An undercover police officer who was part of a multi-agency task force searching for stolen vehicles ended up finding a woman bound, beaten and shot in a pickup truck.

It all happened at Lyford and Gilbo on Detroit's east side.

The Grosse Pointe Park police officer noticed the truck in an empty field. A man waved at the officer, and he went over to investigate.

We're told the man flashed a fake badge and told the officer he ran out of gas. That's when the officer spotted a badly beaten woman in the vehicle.

Police say the suspect and woman are married and  from Hazel Park.

Authorities believe the man intended to dump her body in the field. The woman is now recovering at a nearby hospital.

The suspect is in custody, but charges have yet to be filed in the case.
