A police officer is in critical condition after a crash in Sandusky on Sunday.
Police say around 10 a.m., the Sandusky Police Department responded to an accident at Sanilac Avenue and Elk Street involving a police vehicle.
A Lexington police vehicle was driving eastbound through the intersection with the right of way when another vehicle, driven by a 61-year-old Sandusky resident, did not yield and made a left-hand turn in front of the police vehicle.
Police say the officer tried to avoid the head-on collision and was successful, but lost control on the wet roadway and struck the traffic light pole on the southeast corner of the intersection.
The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment and is in critical condition.
