Our Channel 7 Editorial urging Michigan leaders to come up with a long-term, bi-partisan road plan triggered strong reactions!
Johnette Connors wrote:
“We should find a stronger mixture of materials, cement, etc., that will withstand the customary, brutal winters that we have had for years. Come on scientists!!!! We sent a man to the moon.”
Earl Esch sent in this comment:
“European highways are made of several layers of concrete! I say rebuild the roads with concrete. Let the construction workers get paid for sitting on their tails rather than inconveniencing drivers and milk taxpayers to death!”
Kialee Rodwell said:
“In the UK, a British engineer started to explore using tiny pellets of recycled plastic mixed in with the asphalt. He claims it makes the road 60% stronger and lasts 10 times longer than asphalt alone.” (Check out link)
Jim Allan wrote:
“Not once did you mention our gross vehicle weight (GVW) that is 169,000 pounds vs. every other state’s 80,000 pound GVW. Ever drive in MN., IL., PA. or NY? I have. All better roads, all 80,000 pound GVW.”
And finally, this reaction from Ed Hays:
“Our roads have been hammered for many years due to the Teamsters…. I know because I used to haul coil steel out of Great Lakes Steel before the Dems. gave it all to China. Thank you for any corrective action you can take.”
We should point out that according to MDOT, since 1967, Michigan allows an 11 axle maximum gross vehicle weight of 164,000 pounds per truck.
Thanks for writing!
