Community Comment: Channel 7 viewers sound-off on Sunshine Week & Infrastructure

Posted

Our station editorial about losing the new Amazon headquarters bid generated the most reaction.  Viktoria of Rochester Hills writes:

“MASS TRANSIT!!!  We are so-so-so behind in this arena we can’t compete with Denver, San Francisco, and New York until we address large-scale transportation...”

Lisa Goren said:

“I grew up in Metro Detroit and left in 1997 for Chicago, then Portland….  Your (WXYZ) Editorial was a surface analysis and a weak call to arms for the city’s leaders.  The city’s biggest problem is racism and the resulting poverty….”

Tonya Thomas said:

“Let’s fix the K-12 education problems we have.  Let’s figure out the best way to retain the students we educate at some of the best colleges in the world.  Let’s work harder to attract top talent to our state!”

Our infrastructure Editorial prompted this comment from Abby Clark, Campaign Manager for Pat Miles, a Democrat running to become Michigan Attorney General.  She writes:

“I wanted to make sure you saw…Pat joined progressives…to deliver thousands of petition signatures to Speaker Paul Ryan’s office calling on President Trump and Republicans in Congress to get behind a real infrastructure plan.”

And finally, our Editorial promoting Sunshine Week, attracted the attention of Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette, a Republican running for Governor.  His comment:

“As governor, I will push for laws expanding transparency and find new ways to partner with the public and media to spot problems before they become crisis.”

Thanks for writing and watching.
