Community Comment: Infrastructure, Wayne Cty. Jail, Mike Ilitch & Peter Cummings

Posted

Once again, it's time for our most recent Community Comments.  Our station editorial about why we need to unite around fixing our Michigan infrastructure prompted "liked" tweets from a wide range of viewers, including Shawn Turner and Vena's Nursery.  The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments tweeted two words, "SEMCOG agrees!"  But Diane Mazzara expressed her opinion about raising money to help repair the infrastructure.  She wrote:

"I wonder why all of our politicians here in Michigan do not pay any of their health benefits as every middle class working Michigander does, what makes these politicians any better than us?"

Our editorial about Dan Gilbert's Wayne County jail proposal sparked this reaction.  Walter Duro said:

"Creating a fake sense of urgency is a typical, but effective, tactic."

But Earl Flynn wrote:

"Responding with a sense of urgency is the ante to play."

Many tributes, including our own, were done in honor the passing of businessman Mike Ilitch.  But Ed Deeb of the Michigan Food & Beverage Association summed it up well.

"Mr. Ilitch will be missed, that is for sure.  However, his legacy for all that he did for sports and for our community here in Detroit will remain forever."

And finally, this comment from Peter Cummings about the editorial we did commending him for his ambitious Detroit developments.  He wrote:

"I have heard about it from several people and I think it has done much to broaden the discussion about Detroit's comeback.  Many thanks for this excellent piece of work."

Our pleasure, Peter!

That's it for now.  Thanks for writing!
