WXYZ DETROIT — We received a lot of passionate responses to our WXYZ Editorials about Metro Detroit’s “Brightest & Best” and our participation in the 2020 Census.

Ruth Cantrell writes:

“Thank you, Channel 7, for giving these graduates proper recognition during the pandemic. They deserve it!”

Adam Foster says:

“For years, I watched your salute to outstanding high school students. I’ve always loved the part where they toss their caps into the air on your lawn. Social-distance prevented that from happening this year but your virtual tribute is just as good.”

Melissa Ferguson sent us this comment:

“The diversity of your Brightest & Best video tributes this year really reflects positively on our region. What a colorful and wonderful mosaic. As an educator, I’m beaming with pride.”

Our station editorial letting Michiganders know it’s not too late to participate in the 2020 Census prompted several Facebook “Likes” that included Akil Ahmad, Sharon Petrella and Cheryl Miller.

But this response from a longtime Detroiter drives our editorial home. M. L. Johnson says:

“It will take less time to fill out the census than it does to drive your vehicle through a car wash. You’ll have to clean your car again in a couple weeks but you only have to answer the census every 10 years. So what’s really your excuse not to be counted?”

Cheryl Dixon adds this challenge:

“In 2010, Wisconsin had the best census form return rate in the nation. Surely we aren’t going to let a state filled with Badgers and cheeseheads outdo the loyal Wolverines and Spartans in our Great Lakes State?”

That’s it for now. Thanks for writing and watching.
