It’s a milestone for Detroit, the Ilitch Family and Little Caesar’s Arena. This new landmark on Woodward Avenue is the reality of a dream comes true that was merely an idea on paper a few years ago.
Thursday, the Red Wings open their regular season against the Minnesota Wild. Wednesday, the Pistons played their first preseason game in their new home. Their regular season opener is October 18th.
Little Caesar’s Arena marks a crucial turning point in Michigan’s largest city. This new downtown venue will feature sporting events, concerts, community functions and lots of eating places. Now is the perfect time to explore “The District Detroit,” a 50-block mixed use development conceived and led by the Ilitch organization. As one of the largest entertainment, shopping and residential developments in the country, The District promises to be so much more than just the new arena. It’s a walkable area to live, work, play and visit.
As the arena and District continue to develop, you can bet there will be sensitive issues and challenges to resolve. But this new arena showcases the resurgence of Detroit and puts us on the world stage as a major destination city. It also makes the Ilitch organization partnered with Tom Gores stand tall as corporate catalysts for change, competition and economic development.
Little Caesar’s arena and The District can take pride in knowing they are leaders in the effort to revitalize Detroit.
