WXYZ DETROIT — In 2020, the Coronavirus pandemic took our world, our nation, our state and our metropolitan region by storm! From healthcare, to our economy, to politics, Covid-19 impacted every sector of our society.

And when times seemed the worst, our frontline workers were at their best! They were the glue that kept our essential operations and businesses intact and on the go. They put the safety and health of our communities before their own. Doctors, nurses, healthcare personnel, first-responders, food providers, delivery people, teachers and the many professionals who couldn’t work from the safety of their own home.

Simply put, they were Michigan’s real heroes! We are honored to salute this dedicated and unique group as our Channel 7 Newsmaker of the Year for 2020.

You’ll hear more about their tireless deeds when they are interviewed by Chuck Stokes for our Newsmaker of the Year Special on an upcoming edition of Spotlight on the News, which will air on January 17 at 10 a.m. This outstanding panel, representative of so many other frontline workers, will now join an impressive and select group of leaders that we have been highlighting since 1995. Our entire community takes pride in honoring these men and women who took great strides to support each other and uplift our humanity.

Because of them, we enter 2021 optimistic for the future in spite of the challenging virus still impacting our healthcare system. Please join us in congratulating Michigan’s frontline workers as our WXYZ Newsmaker of the Year for their commitment, courage and compassion.
