Getting around metro Detroit isn’t easy. It can be an obstacle course for even the best navigator. The orange barrel construction. The potholed roads. The sky-high auto insurance rates. The lack of seamless public transportation. No matter where you live in our region, this is one issue that unites all of us.
We at Channel 7 feel it’s time for major changes in Southeast Michigan. We’ll use our on-air and online coverage, to push for safer roads, to save you money and make getting around much simpler. With the help of our recent town hall meeting, our news and investigative reports, and viewer tips to our social media platforms, WXYZ will be relentless and proactive in finding answers to road and transportation problems.
Southeast Michigan residents:
"Fewer and fewer people want to ride the bus. They are finding better options and we should too."
"We missed out on a lot of economic development because we don't have regional transportation."
"My wife now calls this Mario Cart because you have to jog around all the little potholes.":
The American Society of Engineers gave our state a D-minus for our “poor” road conditions. So why are our roads and bridges crumbling and what will it cost to fix them? How can our leaders find bi-partisan solutions to lower auto insurance rates and create a regional mass transit system that is affordable and benefits all?
We also want your help! Let us know where the worst road, bridge, construction and transit challenges exist. We’ll take action for you! gettingaround@wxyz.com
Our mission is to make getting around in metro Detroit safer, easier and faster. That alone will drive change and hope and make us one of the most desirable and livable regions in the nation.
