The weather brought out tons of people to tonight's fireworks. And the high security of both Belle Isle and around Hart Plaza seems to have paid off.
On the ground, lights of a different kind kept an eye on the crowds in a big way.
"One of the things we’re doing this year, we didn't do last year," said Detroit Police Chief James Craig. "Spirit Plaza was the first year. Had we known now what we knew then spirit plaza would've been limited access."
The increased security was in an effort to prevent incidents like the one that occurred in 2017 at Hart Plaza when a grandmother was shot in the back while attending the fireworks.
A year later, that shooting was still on the minds of a few.
Following Monday's Ford Fireworks, there were only a few minor disturbances, but overall a peaceful night.
There were four juveniles detained for curfew violation, but they were released to their parents or guardians and given a curfew citation.
