Sterling Heights is throwing a party at Dodge Park in honor of the city’s 50th anniversary.
The city officially celebrates on July 1, but with high temperatures in the forecast, the timing couldn’t be better as part of the unveil at Dodge Park includes the all-new splash pad that was part of the overhaul at the park in the past year.
The park opens to the public at 7 a.m., but the splash pad isn’t open until 10 a.m.
The party will include fireworks at 10 p.m.
Those who want to arrive early will see an official ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. followed by a time capsule presentation, a sing-a-long and the first music show at the renovated amphitheater.
The renovation of Dodge Park is part of the city’s investment that began last year to overhaul 21 city parks. In addition to a new splash pad, the city overhauled the amphitheater and the volleyball courts. The farmer’s market pavilion was rebuilt and a mini-soccer field was added too.
