INDEPENDENCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — Summer concerts at DTE Music Theatre (or Pine Knob if you prefer) are a time honored summer tradition in metro Detroit.

But, if you're attending a show this year, you'll need to take extra time and pack your patience before you head out the door. That's because Sashabaw Road is under construction from I-75 to Clarkston Road, right outside the gates of the venue. Only one lane of traffic is available in each direction.

The project started in 2018 with the installation of sanitary sewers. Crews are now working to install new water-main leads. They are also widening the road from 2 lanes to 5 lanes. This will include two lanes in each direction, as well as a center left-turn lane and a dedicated right turn lanes where need.

The $4.8 million project is expected to last through the summer and be completed in the fall.

A number of big name acts are scheduled to perform at DTE during this summer's concert season, which kicks off May 19 with Slayer. Sammy Hagar, Florence and the Machine, Eddie Money and Luke Combs will all perform before the end of May.

Bob Seger will then start June with 4 of the 6 shows that are part of his Roll Me Away final tour.

Other big name set to person this summer include Lionel Richie (June 30), Dave Matthew Band (July 9), Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band (July 16), Alice Cooper (July 20), Mary J. Blige & Nas (July 28), Wiz Khalifa (July 31), Heart (August 5), Florida Georgia Line (August 10 and 22), Santana (August 11), Nelly, TLC and Flo Rida (August 17), Ted Nugent (August 31), Kid Rock (September 6,7,13, and 14), blink-182& Lil Wayne (September 10), Rascal Flatts (September 19), and Jason Aldean (September 28).
