PONTIAC, Mich. (WXYZ) — There's more trouble for Pontiac schools after parents received a letter saying there was a bomb threat made against the middle school.

This is just the latest in a slew of problems in recent weeks for Pontiac schools.

Parents say they’re worried after hearing about this recent threat. The district is taking this matter seriously and on Friday there will be more police officers on campus.

"It makes me feel really scared," Violet Jones said.

Her granddaughter attends Pontiac Middle School.

The district sent out a letter to parents telling them a student made a threat on social media that the school would be bombed on Friday, May 10.

"We can’t take any threat as a prank anymore," said Jamell Humphrey. "Schools getting shot up, kids doing crazy things now."

Humphrey has three kids who attend the school.

Just two weeks ago, a 14-year-old girl came forward and said she had been assaulted by a 15-year-old boy in a secluded area at the high school.

"I think the school needs to take more action," said Violet Jones, a parent. "I don’t know if they need to have more metal detectors, have more security, tighter security."

Last week, an officer chased four people out of a school who were not students. There were reports that one of the intruders had a gun.

"All you can do is prepare for it," Humphrey said. "You’ve got to prepare for the worst. Assume anything, like I said if they called in a bomb threat you’ve got to take precaution for it, you have no choice."

Folks say the threats have to always be taken seriously and at the end of the day, it’s the responsibility of the parents.

"They have to get more involved in checking to see what their kids are bringing to school, and more involved with their social life – who they’re hanging out with," Jones said.

The district is hiring three additional full-time officers to create a larger police presence on May 10.
