Passenger steals vehicle in parking lot of Detroit Police Department

DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police are investigating a vehicle theft that happened at the 11th precinct parking lot Friday evening.

On Jan. 3 around 5 p.m, the 27-year-old male victim was allegedly involved in a car incident on Gallagher and 8 Mile with a driver of a red Impala. Police say both drivers went to the 11th Precinct to file a report.

While in the precinct parking lot, a 23-year-old male passenger of the red Impala, allegedly got out of the Impala, took the victim's van and speed off, along with another occupant of the red Impala, police say.

Both vehicles subsequently collided into each other in the area of Fenelon and Stockton, according to police. As a result of the crash, the 23-year-old suspect sustained injuries. Medics took him to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The driver of the Impala also ran off from the scene.

Police are still investigating.
