Pedestrian killed in Clinton Twp. hit-and-run

Posted

Police in Clinton Township are investigating a deadly hit-and-run accident that happened early this morning.

Police tell us a pedestrian has died after being hit on Garfield between 17 and 18 Mile around 2:45 a.m. He has been identified as 38-year-old Joe Perry.

We're told Perry was hit by two cars. The driver of the first vehicle that struck the victim did not stop. The second driver, who was on her way home from work, stopped at the scene and is fully cooperating with police.

That stretch of Garfield was closed for a couple hours as police worked to learn more about what happened. It has since reopened.

Perry lived with his twin brother at the Garfield Plaza Apartments on Garfield and Eleanor.

Family members say he had been battling drinking problems and was getting his life in order. They believe he may have been on the way home after spending the night looking for work.

Police are asking for help finding the car that was involved in the accident. They are still working to determine make and model, but say it should have front end damage.
