(WXYZ) — Police are investigating an assault at the Nichols Arboretum on the University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus.

Police say that at approximately 1:30 a.m. on April 8, a man was sitting on a bench in the arboretum near the Peony Gardens. He reportedly heard something behind him, and as he turned around, he was struck over his right eye with a glass bottle.

The suspect then allegedly stuck a plastic airsoft-type pistol into the victim's neck and told him to freeze.

Police say the victim punched the suspect, knocked him to the ground and fled.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the UM Division of Public Safety and Security at 734-763-1131.
