DETROIT (WXYZ) — Detroit police say a 24-year-old man is in custody following a deadly assault at a motel on the city's east side overnight.
According to police, they were called to the JZ Motel and Suites around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. The hotel is near 8 Mile and Gratiot.
Inside the hotel, they found a 56-year-old man who they say was assaulted and later died from his injuries.
Sources tell us the man is Bashar Kallabat, a well-known hair stylist who had a salon in Birmingham.
Right now, police don't have circumstances leading up to the man's death, but there are Project Greenlight cameras at the hotel and at other business near the motel.
Police say the suspect was identified within 12 hours of them being called to the scene, and that's due to the Greenlight cameras.
Police say they are still trying to figure out the circumstances surrounding this death. People are asked to call @detroitpolice Homicide Unit at 313-596-2260, or @MIcrimestoppers at 1-800-SpeakUp if they have info. @wxyzdetroit https://t.co/BeIsnhlkR9

Police still haven't released many details leading up to the assault, but they did say that a rideshare app and a dating app was used in the crime. Chief Craig did say that they believe two men did not know each other.
