(WXYZ) — A local family is desparate to find out how their loved one, an inmate inside a Wayne County jail, died. Now Detroit police are investigating.
Just past midnight on Wednesday, Antonio James was found in critical condition inside his jail cell bed. The 29-year-old, who was jailed for a probation violation, was later pronounced dead. Right now, Detroit police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
James had been in a fight earlier and died about an hour after that, according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. They add that they're unsure if that had anything to do with his death.
The Wayne County medical examiner has not yet ruled on what caused it.
