DETROIT (WXYZ) — Tommie Mahone, 32, is accused of driving recklessly at Rosa Parks Boulevard and Ferry Park Avenue on Nov. 10 and critically injuring a spectator who was watching him do donuts and 360s.
Mahone, of Eastpointe, has been charged with failing to stop at the scene of a serious personal injury accident and reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function.
Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Mahone was also present when spectators joined a reckless driver in stopping traffic on westbound I-94 near Trumbull Sunday night.
"Let me start out by saying none of them can drive," Craig said. "They are not professional race car drivers."
Detroit police are now trying to identify and locate the driver of a red or orange Camaro who was at the center of Sunday's freeway takeover that lasted ten to fifteen minutes.
Video of the Camaro doing donuts on the freeway while a number of people exited their vehicle to watch was posted to social media.
Detroit police say some of the vehicles involved in these reckless driving incidents have had their license plates covered with a profane message to Detroit Police.
Mahone has a number of suspensions on his Michigan driving record but he currently has a valid driver's license.
Bond for Mahone has been set at $20,000 (10%). Conditions of bond include no driving and no contact with the victim, directly or indirectly.
He's due back in court next month.
