Detroit police say the off-duty officer ignored a red light, made a left-hand turn and struck another vehicle this morning near Woodward and 7 Mile.
The driver of the other vehicle reportedly then careened into a SMART bus that was unloading. No one on the bus was hurt, according to police.
Police say four people were in the vehicle that was hit by the off-duty officer. They were all transported to a local hospital and are currently listed in stable condition.
The officer was also transported to the hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Lanes are blocked near Woodward and 7 Mile following the accident involving an off-duty officer.
7:31 a.m.
An off-duty officer has been involved in a crash on Detroit's west side, police sources confirm to 7 Action News.
The accident occurred near W. 7 Mile and Woodward.
No word yet on the extent of the officer's injuries.
