An Allen Park woman is relieved to have her precious pets back home safe this morning thanks to the help of some police officers.

Barb Hojnicki let her two beagles out early Monday morning not knowing the gate was open. When she realized they were gone, Hojnicki put out a message on the Allen park Facebook page.

Officers in the area heard about the Facebook post and found the beagles wandering about four blocks away.

"We could tell immediately that they were exhausted, they had been walking around for a few hours," Officer Nathan Vitale said. "I carried water with me in the car, called them over to us, they laid right down on the ground."

It's only fitting that the K-9 unit was part of the search team.

Officer Vitale said getting the dogs home safely is all part of the job.

"All I could do is cry, they mean so much to me, they're about all I have," Hojnicki said.
