Fraser police say shots were fired during a chase early Wednesday morning.
Several police vehicles from multiple departments could be seen surrounding a red Mustang at 15 Mile and Kelly in Clinton Township.
Police say the suspect tried to ram the cruisers repeatedly. That's when a Fraser police officer fired shots.
We're told two bullets hit the driver. One hit him in the shoulder and the other struck him in the head.
Remarkably, he was alert after the shooting. Police are expecting him to pull through.
Investigators say that driver has a lengthy driving record that includes drinking and driving, license suspensions and his license has been revoked multiple times. They say this morning, he had a license with his picture on it, but his brother's information.
We're told the Fraser officers who were involved in this morning's chase and shooting are on administrative leave, which is standard protocol.
The Fraser Director of Public Safety says the driver has a history of fleeing from police and drinking and driving. He says police spoke to the driver's family and says they were "understanding" and even asked how the officer's are doing.
Action News knows the identity of the driver, but we have not named him because he hasn't been charged.
