Community Comment: Insurance, roads & refugees

Posted

Our station editorial on what should be Michigan’s legislative agenda prompted Dr. Dawn Lancaster to write:

“Please don’t let the insurance companies fool you.  The catastrophic fund has grown to enormity…because they have set their premiums far too high and claimed that it is because of the catastrophic portion of premiums.  They should be forced to lower premiums….!”

Regarding the never-ending road repair debate, Joy Duffy of Ann Arbor said:

“I just want to know why we are the only state with lousy roads.  What are the other states doing so they don’t have lousy roads? “

And that, Ms. Duffy, is the million dollar question!

Another Channel 7 viewer sent us this message:

“Lansing lawmakers would be wise in shutting the MEDC (Michigan Economic Development Corporation) down completely and dedicating all revenue to fixing Michigan roads.  The first step should be in demanding the immediate resignation of MEDC chief Steve Arwood.”

And finally, this observation and question from Brad Hines about the Syrian refugee crisis:

“We have an incredible opportunity to put these people to work fixing homes, rebuilding schools, fixing roads, paying taxes, and bringing about the change that Detroit and many communities in Michigan desperately need. Does it make sense for these people to stay trapped in Europe starving and yearning for a better life when Detroit and Michigan yearns for them?”

Good question.

That’s it for now.  Thanks for writing and watching.
