(WXYZ) — Michigan Department of Transportation crews will start prep work for the bridge replacement over I-94 in Detroit this Saturday.
The construction will replace the French Road and Concord Street overpasses above I-94. On March 18, the overpass will be closed to all traffic with detours posted. The I-94 exit ramp to French Road will also be closed for the duration of the project.
On Saturday, both directions of I-94 will have lane closures between Connor Road and Mt. Elliot Street. One westbound lane will be open from 5 to 10 a.m. while intermittent single and double-lane closures will be in place on eastbound I-94 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The lane closures are needed to implement a traffic shift that will allow three lanes in both directions to be maintained during peak travel times on I-94.
Friday night, the Conner Street and French Road ramps to westbound I-94 will be closed until late November. Ramp traffic will be detoured to M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) to access westbound I-94.
Officials say the 17.6 million investment is scheduled to be completed in November.
